Good Morning! My name is E’Myia Thomas and I attend Next Level Community Development Center. I have been a participant in summer camp and the afterschool programs for three years. I will be in the 5th grade at Heard Elementary School this fall.
The first thing that I like about attending the 21st Century Program at Next Level is the way the teachers help us learn more about what we are learning in day school and help us prepare for the Georgia Milestone tests by reviewing the things we are learning in day school. The afterschool teachers help the day school teachers get it into our brains. In afterschool, we do a lot a lot of different things like practice tests, learning games like Math 24, Taboo, Scrabble, using math manipulative and doing other fun activities especially in reading, math and science. This summer we have done STEAM activities. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. In my class, for example we did a project about Earthquakes where we did research, build an earthquake model structure using toothpicks and marshmallows, wrote a television new s broadcast about an earthquake hitting our structures. We recorded a summary of all of the activities during the five weeks in our STEAM notebook.
Another thing that we do at the beginning of each day after snack time is Homework. Teachers are there to be sure that we understand our assignments by explaining anything we do not understand. I like getting my homework done before I go home. They check our work to be sure it is correct before we say we are done with an assignment.
Enrichments give us a chance to do different things like, science experiments, cooking, dance, and zumba, This past summer one of my favorite activities was when High Tech High Touch visited us and we got to touch a sheep’s brain and cow’s eye plus do other neat science and technology activities. We also have gone to places like GO Fish, the Coke Cola Museum- my favorite was from Europe and tasted like the Jolly Green Giant, and The Martin Luther King Center.
I also want to mention the Triple F’s: Friends, Free Time, and Food. Plus P
5th Grader Summer Camp Experience
- Friends-You have a chance to make new friends from different schools
- Free time- we all like the chanced when we have a few minutes to play with friends at the end of the program each day in the gym before our parents pick us up
- The food is great: I especially like the spaghetti, grits During afterschool we have a snack and dinner and during the summer breakfast ,lunch and a snack
- I can’t forget our parents they come on field trips with us and help do all kinds of things at the program. I especially like sharing the Thanksgiving Dinner in November and the end of school game day especially the basketball and water games.
Miss Keisa and all the staff are really nice!. I like Mr. Brown too, he is a special volunteer because he brings around the good behavior cart every Thursday so if you have been good and have Good Bucks to spend you can go to his cart
The best way for me to describe NEXT LEVEL is It’s like we are at the Fair!!!
